Trevor's flatback dry

hook rib hackle / tail method
Size 14 Kamersan 752 mixed claret, ginger & olive dubbing Black cock hackle for wings and grizzle for thorax.

Run silk down the hook. wind in dubbing loop. tie in tip end black cock hackle at eye having swept the hackles to tie in point (see picture).

Add a grizzle hackle at the eye with just 4/5 turns. Whip finish.

No 16 downeye black plasticoat CDC feather.
peacock herl
blue wonder-wing

Run thread from eye to bend. Tie in peacock herl & wind back to eye.
Shape the wonder-wing material. double up and tie on topo of hook. lightly tie in small strip of black plasticoat to make the fly float. Place CDC feather in dudding loop, remove fibres in one side then wind in as a hackle at the eye.
bring back the surplus plasticoat and tie in.

Size 18 yellow fine floss olive hackle

Run silk down the hook.
Tie in small olive hackle at the bend end
Wind in dubbing loop made with the yellow fine floss
Wind up the hook using open turns the olive hackle. tie in and whip finish.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tony's blue sub-surface damsel

No 10 longshank flash mylar blue nylon feather duster.blue dubbing
thread over the shank to bend, tie in mylar and lead wire . Wind in lead wire at eye end. Take big bunch of duster fibres and tie in starting at bend end , doudle the fibres over at head and tie in. With just 3 or 4 tourns bring mylar to head and tie in. apply blue dubbing to head and tie off. varish shank for more sparkle if required.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Caroline's perky Pike Fly

hook rib hackle / tail method
Pike Hook black silk 4 orange hackle feathers 3" long
good pinch of glitter
blue marabou for hackle

NB - other colours can be used if you like.

Tie the thread on to the hook but start 3/4 of the way down the hook.
Tie in 2 orange feathers each side of the hook shank.
Tie on top of the shank a good pinch of glitter, the same length as the feathers.
Tie in 2 more orange feathers each side of the shank.
Now tie in the blue marabou all round the hook in small amounts as the hackle.
tie off - whip finish - varnish .
Fish next to reed beds using a quick retrieve (works in Sweden !!!).

 

 

 

 

Derrick's Early Season Tiger fly

hook rib hackle / tail method
Nymph no12 or 14 orange thread, yellow/orange antron, yellow floss for tail. orange dyed partridge for hackle Take thread down to appoint opposite the barb. Catch in the floss to form the tail with orange antron - must stay straight.
Take cotton up the eye & tie in orange & yellow antron for stripy effect along whole thorax.
Catch in tip of orange dyed partridge feather and wind to form the hackle.
Cast off to form the head.
      This fly can be used as a dry fly or weighted with copper wire for wet retrieve.

method
Silk the shank. Tie in a 30lb loop of monofilament to support the zonker strip. Tie in the zonker strip
Tie in about 6 strands of krystal flash.
Tie in hackle, eye-side of zonker strip.
Bulk up with floss just in front of hackle and stick on eyes.
